They don't have seeds because they aren't fruit. It's the fruiting body of a fungus known as a puffball. The smoke you see when you depress the surface of them are the spores.
Yes remember I have seen similar fruit on a vine and when the seed is dried 'smoke' comes out and no seeds were found.
