Field Notes

Description:

Purple, velvety, mold-like fungi found under damp, rotting sticks.

Habitat:

Deciduous forest in urban park.

Notes:

As my 5th grade class and I were building a fort from recently trimmed sycamore saplings, the kids kept turning over sticks and discovering this purple velvet-like fungi.
