Field Notes

Description:

Pale blue butterfly, with white edging on wings.

Habitat:

Found in the grasses near ocean cliffs at Seven Sisters Country Park.

Notes:

The majority of the butterflies around the cliffs were darker in color. But there were a handful of these light blue butterflies. Unfortunately, I didn't have a macro lens with me so I don't have any more detailed close-ups.

Maybe a common blue?

As you're the one who saw the butterfly it might be best if you give it a go:-) Here is a good site to start: http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk
Thanks for looking. No underwing picture as I had the wrong lens that day :-(
Hi Kirsten! One of the blues (Lycaenidae)...very tricky without an underwing picture:-( I could try to narrow it down...
I think it might be this - http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species.php?species=icarus, but not sure.
