Description:

I'm not sure if these are wet plant seeds or eggs. Any help with an ID would be appreciated.

Habitat:

Plant along the Stream Trail, Redwood Regional Park, Oakland, CA.

Sorry, Misako! I was not suggesting the ID in my comment. I was just commenting that it looked like Chia seeds. I hope some expert can help you with the ID more accurately.

Yes! It's very high in omega-3 fatty acid, and when mixed with water, it forms gel. But it's more known for the Chia Pets, I think. :) Here's the info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvia_hispanica

chia sedds! I have just communicated a review paper on it..got to know about its great gelling ability..indeed this mass looks like that
This is a great series! The 1st photo looks like Chia seeds soaked in water (which I eat every day). :-)
