Marsh Crane Fly

Tipula oleracea

Comments (4)

This species of Crane Fly was introduced from Europe. Crane flies are neat insects. Contrary to some of their common names like Mosquito Hawk and Skeeter-eater, adult crane flies usually do not eat or drink. Some may feed at flowers. They usually live long enough to reproduce. They are harmless and cannot bite or sting. Most crane fly larva eat decaying organic material. None are known to feed on mosquitoes specifically.
Definitely a crane fly. Nice shot.
