Field Notes

Description:

Unknown spider found in Maine in early Fall. It was found by my nana sweeping off my family's flower shop porch and uncovering this fairly large spider. Total length from front leg to rear leg is approximately 3.65 centimeters (Inch and a half). Believed to be a labrynthine orb weaver, but not exactly sure. Moved fairly slowly and would occasionally show "aggressive" behavior by rearing its front legs when I tried to get a few pictures.

Habitat:

Under a pile of leaves on flower shop patio.

Notes:

May have come in on a plant for the shop, and thus isn't native to this region.
