Field Notes

Description:

Tan to fawn colored hemispherical cap approximately 1 cm diameter with black or dark brown scaling near top.

Remnants of cup at base of stalk visible

Gills are not decurrent.

For scale: the dark patchy thing close in background of some is a maple leaf key

Noticed yesterday growing amongst roots of a potted Datura (~3 years old, grown from seed) that had been outside for summer. Has already dried and shriveled after refilling watering bulbs in the pot. Did not appear slimy, wet, or waxy - texture appeared approximately like common grocery store button mushrooms

Habitat:

Growing amongst roots of a potted datura (grown from seed, over 3 years old) that had been outside for summer in an attempt to get rid of spider mites
