Do you remember what kind of trees were around this siting? It could be an indiscriminate woolly aphid, or if you were near American beech (Fagus grandifolia) it might be a beech blight aphid (Grylloprociphilus imbricator).
Hi Micky55 and welcome to Project Noah. The aim in posting is that we might all be able to learn species, time and place. This one is so tiny that there is not much hope of achieving that goal. Therefore could you please either remove this spotting or replace it with a different one or add a 'macro' photo of the critter so we can see some details. Thanks so much. Nice other spottings btw.
