It's a wolf spider, possibly a "rabid wolf spider" (not actually rabid). I get them in my house all the time in NC. They're startling to find unexpectedly, but harmless. They live all over my yard too, and I think they find their way inside by accident. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rabidosa_rabida
