The polypore appeared to be a juvenile Laetiporus, I think

I suppose you'll just have to keep checking it then Lars. Got any shots of the top of the polypore? It seems to have a nice pearly colour in this one.

That remains the question, Mark - is it competing, just coexisting or even a kind of symbiosis?
