Field Notes

Description:

All black mushroom both top and gills. Stem is black up towards the head and gradually lightens till it becomes white near the ground.

Habitat:

Found growing in dry gravel underneath a mesquite tree in a front yard.

Notes:

This is also right under a bird feeder so spores could have come from the bird seed or birds themselves. Have never seen a mushroom growing in gravel before. Have never seen all black mushrooms that weren't morels before.
