Field Notes

Description:

Appears to have lumpy-skin with green spots on a grey body.

May be the European Green Toad, but very similar to the Syrian Spadefoot Toad (Endangered species in Israel). Please help me ID this correctly.

Habitat:

Mediterranean region. Dry area, the only source of water in the immediate area is a spring. Lots of Pine and Cypress trees growing there. Agricultural land as well. Ground is mostly sandstone.

Notes:

Photographed at night (20h49pm IDST - Israeli Daylight Saving Time) in Kibbutz Tzuba, near Jerusalem, Israel. This specific toad was photographed along a road leading to a set of ruins. Later, 1st September the same kind of toad was spotted and photographed right at the spring site, only a couple hundred meters away from first toad sighting. Also at night.
