Spider with light yellow body, orange legs, and dark red head

Habitat:

Zone 8 climate, south Texas suburban area

Notes:

Found inside my son's (dry) plastic pool. Is it poisonous?

Ashley, these spiders can inflict painful bites akin to a bee sting, so do be careful. Also, they do carry venom, and a small number of secondary infections have been reported. Your son may or may not be allergic to the venom, so it's best to relocate these spiders away from your home and/or encourage him to look, but not touch. There's no harm in observing this kind of spider as it goes about its daily business. They are not to be feared, only respected, and will only bite if messed with. They're fun to watch, believe me.
