It is a wild rabbit. There are a bazillion of them around here in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Another option is that this is a domestic rabbit, an escaped or abandoned pet. Denise, can you give us a little more information about your experience with this rabbit? Was it friendly or skittish? Was the back foot white or is that just a play of light? Did the fur look very short and velvety or was it normal length?
Most likely an Eastern Cottontail since the Mountain species is larger and the Desert you would less likely find in urban areas.
