Field Notes

Description:

What I believe to be some kind of grasshopper

Habitat:

Open fields, native prairie grasslands and usually in full sunlight

Notes:

I've never found one of these in the woods. They seem to prefer the open grasslands or prairie. I'm wondering if they prefer direct sunlight or just the plants found there as I typically see them sitting in bright sunshine on the warmest days in late summer.
