Field Notes

Description:

Off-white to light-tan clusters of fungus growing around a tree stump. Tight clusters with semi-porous surface. Firm to the touch. The larger clusters growing in near full sun while the tanner and smaller clusters were growing in shade or between the bark and trunk.

Habitat:

Tree stump in full sun, part shade to south face. Cold, wet environment. Stump was less than 50 yards from a flowing creek. Galloway Park, West Plains, MO.

Notes:

Cork fungus?
