Field Notes

Description:

About 6" across, all a pale creamy color, has gills.

Habitat:

Located on a south facing, but shaded area; in thick ponderosa pine needle duff with no other vegetation, near a pine stump (tree recently fell down). Inside the drip line of the old downed tree.

Notes:

Found on the third day of rain - very unusual for December in Montana.

With gills that go partially down the short fat stem and white spores, I wonder if it may be a subalpine waxycap?
