This looks like a crossing between Clathrus ruber and Phallus impudicus...

I'm thinking Lysurus periphragmoides

Here you go: Hi Janet, Your mushroom appears to be a Clathrus, possibly Clathrus chrysomycelinus ( Basket fungus ) Also part of the Stinkhorn family. Not a real common mushroom to the U.S. although it has been found in Arizona too. I want to dig into this a little further, and if anything changes I'll let you know. Jack Skrceny ( Mushroom Jack )

Almost looks like a type of Morel but not. I am hoping to get an answer and will post if I do.

Now that is one odd mushroom. I will try to see if I can find it. But hope you get an ID soon.
