Description:

I remember this being about 75mm or three inches. It is the discarded shell of something although I am stumped by what it could be

Habitat:

Among the sand dunes. Coastal dunes. A part of the coastal dune care project so strong native plant representation. About a hundred yards from the surf. Hot mid-summer and in full sun but may have been washed there from under a bush

Empty pupal case of some kind of fly, on the order of a robber fly (Asilidae), mydas fly (Mydidae), or giant wood-boring fly (Pantophthalmidae).
