I did a search on rogersmushrooms for purple fungi in North America that grow on wood and this was one of the suggestions: http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/DisplayBlock~bid~6883~source~gallerychooserresult.asp (Tricholomopsis rutilans aka Plums and Custard)
Good point. I'll poke around at some other areas then. Thanks for the facts. :D
I think russulae are mycorhizal not saprophytic.
