Species ID Suggestions

Hawk Moth

Hippotion sp.

I bow to bayucca's superior knowledge, and I'm most happy as I now have an ID for another caterpillar from my garden which I shall be posting later
There are two Hippotion sp. in South Africa: Hippotion celerio and Hippotion osiris. I can't separate them from a picture, however I would tend to Hippotion celerio, because Osiris has much stronger markings as Celerio. But for definitive exclusion of Osiris you would need to see the complete hindwings. http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippotion_osiris http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippotion_celerio
not overly confident of my ID - Hyles lavornica, but I had the caterpillars in my garden recently ( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16892178 )
