Field Notes

Description:

This (as yet unidentified!) tiny frog (~5 mm length) was found on the path to the three Santa Lucía Cloud Forest Reserve waterfalls, at an altitude of about 1800 m. Its hind legs have a blue-grey colour. If it is indeed a Smokey Jungle Frog, the frog's location would be above its expected altitude range according to Wikipedia.

Habitat:

cloud forest, near a creek, altitude of about 1800 m.

Notes:

The little frog was found on the property of Santa Lucía Cloud Forest Reserve, Barrio La Delicia, Nanegal, Ecuador.

Maybe Epipedobates boulengeri - or relative ? http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/imgs/512x768/1111_1111/1111/1901.jpeg
I don't believe this is L. pentadactylus. The elevation and size (~5mm) are not characteristic of this species. Smoky jungle frogs are extremely large even during the tadpole stage (~70-85mm). Tough to determine species with this photo but could be a Leptodactylus or Eleutherodactylus spp.
Welcome to Project Noah. Cute little frog. Someone will be able to help identify it I am sure.
