Field Notes

Description:

I love how the colors of the wings sparkle and change depending on how the sun's rays are striking them.

Habitat:

Seen on the hills behind the town of Sungaipenuh, near the Kerinci Seblat National Park, Sumatra, Indonesia.

Notes:

I'm leaning towards Neurothemis fluctuans, but I'm having a hard time telling apart the different Neurothemis sp. online. Any help?

Species ID Suggestions

Indonesian Red-Winged Dragonfly

Neurothemis terminata

That looks like Neurothemis terminata to me. I think the shape of the outer edge of the hind wing markings is the pointer, though they can be tricky little devils. N. fluctuans has a more curved edge on the hind wing markings.
Try this one: http://www.asia-dragonfly.net/globalResults.php?Species=120 Dave
Lol and then they might not be right either. Good luck narrowing it down.
But these all look similar, too! http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/15798204 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/10697382 http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/13930220
Is it the same as this spotting? The markings look similar. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/17438155
