Field Notes

Description:

Small frog, but not tiny. One and a half or two inches long. Gnat flying above head for scale.

Habitat:

Mature hardwood (maple, ash, tulip poplar, hemlock, etc.) with flowing spring creek near lake. Western edge of eastern Highland Rim in southern middle Tennessee.

Haha yes, if only they had their chromosome number labeled on their back, would make it so much easier!!

So true. H. versicolor is tetraploid, while H. chrysoscelis is diploid (like us!). It might be a little difficult to use for identification ;)

This is a Grey Treefrog. There are two species, only differentiated by the call.
