I recently found a larvae or cocoon of one of these, it was in the fallen leaves, visible legs but they were not external yet/ or anymore. Big noticeable eyes at the top of the cocoon and it started popping around in my hand like popcorn!
Oh I LOVE click beeltles! No matter how often I've poked at click beetles, no matter how often I've seen it happen, it never fails to make me jump when they "click" !! hah hah!
That's a 'click bug' then, but I'm not sure what kind exactly. Notice the 'eyes' on the top, you or someone can probably ID. I will look into also, very interesting bugs, thanks for sharing.
Yes. It did pop & jump into the upright position.
Looks to be a 'click beetle' of some kind. Did you pick it up or notice any popping.
