Field Notes

Description:

A small dark brownish grey toad 4 to 5 cm.

Habitat:

spotted on a hiking trail at Lake DeGray State Park.

Species ID Suggestions

Fowler's Toad

Anaxyrus fowleri

Thanks Tukup for the ID help on this one. It certainly resembles the Rocky Mountain Tailed Frog, but the range is not correct. I'm leaning towards a toad due to the dry warty skin and the eyes are not protruding. Possibly Fowler's Toad ( Anaxyrus fowleri). The dark band under the eye might be clue.
