Field Notes

Description:

Field "grass" that grows over the course of a month or two. Up to 6/7ft hight. woody stalk with grass like leaves until it protrudes multiple flowering heads. (flower buds pictured). Appears in open fields and fencelines.

Habitat:

West central GA, poor soil.

Notes:

Whatever this "weed" is has been the home to ladybug larvae and is popular with wasps and other insects.

Looks like it could be Dogfennel or maybe Horseweed.
