Field Notes

Description:

A small Hairstreak butterfly. I saw many pattern variations of these little butterflies on my travels in Central America. Hard to see from this photo but it appears to have only 2 small tails. Most of the other ones I saw had 4 or even 6 tails, or just 2 long ones. Always a chance that they have been broken off of course, making it very difficult to ID.

Habitat:

Seen mud-puddling on wet earth by a small stream
