Field Notes

Description:

This little orange beetle was sitting on a Fishtail Palm up the side of our house. He was about one cm long.

Similar-looking to a Cucurbit Leaf Beetle (Aulacophora indica - http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Aulacophora_indica), but its seems there is no record of this species in Australia.

Thanks Lori. Just had a quick look & couldn't see an orange one, but I did learn that Darkling Beetle larvae are actually meal worms, something I used to feed my pet Barramundi!

This also seems to have the general shape of a Darkling beetle. But I don't know if any of their nymphs come in this color.
