Brown Pelican

Pelecanus occidentalis

The coloring made me agree with Brown Pelican or contemplate the Peruvian Pelican. Peruvian Pelicans are said to be nearly twice the weight of the brown pelican, and longer/taller. A check of ebird.com told me there have been zero sightings of Peruvian Pelicans in the area of your sighting. However, of all of the Brown Pelican sightings, I could find none there in August. (The Brown Pelican sightings there seemed to be March, May and December.) This makes me wonder if your bird missed (or skipped) a migration. ...Nice spotting!
