Field Notes

Description:

About 12-14 in tall with multiple stems each ending in a round head with sharp thorns

Habitat:

Willamette Valley, Oregon on the Finley National Wildlife Refuge, a mix of native prairie, wetlands, oak savanna and meadows. This was in a fairly dry area next to a parking lot

Notes:

My daughter touched one of the "heads" & got a nasty poke that became very sore.
