Field Notes

Description:

olive-green with off-white belly. Brown irises and horizontal almond-shaped pupils in the eye

Habitat:

large bodies of water, ponds, lakes, and slow streams and is most often seen at the edge of the water in vegetation or debris

Notes:

native to eastern North America, from the Atlantic Coast to Oklahoma and Kansas. It's not found in Florida, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota
