Tropical House Cricket
Gryllodes sigillatus
15.4558, 119.922
Field Notes
Habitat:
This Tropical House Cricket was spotted on the floor of our front terrace at 8:45 pm.
Notes:
Gryllidae; Gryllinae; Gryllini; Gryllodes sigillatus (Walker, 1869). Wikipedia says that males and females are very similar, but the females can be identified by the fact that they are wingless and have a long ovipositor. The males have short wings. The Tropical house cricket shown here has neither ovipositor nor wings. I don't know enough about crickets to decide if this is a female which has lost its ovipositor, or a male which has lost its wings. When I was cropping my photo, I noticed the tiny red mite where the femur of the left hind leg joins to the body. The second picture is just a less-cropped copy of the first, to show the amazing length of the antennae.
