Field Notes

Description:

Pioneer species, large, with heights ranging between 20m and 35m when mature. Its wood is light, soft to cut, moderately durable and very resistant. It is suitable for the manufacture of canoes and boats entire trunk, and toys and plywood. The tree contains broad and leafy canopy, providing great shade during the summer. It's great for reforestation of degraded areas of permanent preservation in mixed plantings, especially for its rapid initial growth. Moreover, its fruits contain saponin, and are used for cleansing the body in the woods.

Habitat:

Native of Atlantic Forest. I found this specimen in a mountainous region of transition forest, between the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado.
