Field Notes

Description:

Gray, brown, and buff in color with black spots on wings. It has a long pointed tail, and short legs. It has a beautiful greenish circle around the eye.

Habitat:

This bird was found sitting in a tree in my front yard. I see them quite often.

Habitat: North America

Notes:

Fun Facts: 1. The record "crop" for this bird is 17,200 seeds! That's a lot of seeds! 2. Estimated population in the U.S. is 350 million. 3. The oldest recorded life span of this bird is 30 years and 4 months. Sadly this male was a banded bird and was shot in Florida. :(
