Field Notes

Habitat:

These Red Cotton Stainers were spotted, in our backyard, on the remains of our Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus). At the end of the vegetable season, we do not remove the plants after harvesting. They are left to die back, naturally and we allow weeds to grow, unchecked. This attracts many insects, including the Red Cotton Stainers shown here.

Notes:

This spotting is related to https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1072305832... which showed a number of Red Cotton Stainer mating couples on the Okra in our backyard vegetable plot.. The first photo, in this spotting, appears to show a mature adult, but all the others are nymphs (of various instars). The last photo shows what I think is an exuvium (moulted exoskeleton).
