Description:
The White-face Ibis is about average size for a wading bird, outside of Great Egret and Great Blue Heron. It is a brown bird with iridescent green wings; almost identical to Glossy Ibis with the exception of the pink/red face (surrounded by white outline while in breeding plumage) and red eyes.
Habitat:
Usually found in flocks of Glossy Ibis. They can be found in prairies and shallow wetlands.
Notes:
Considered rare east of the Mississippi River. They can be hard to ID outside of breeding plumage, without the pinkish-red face with thin white border. Really need to have the sun shining on the eyes just right in order to see the red eye and differentiate between its virtual twin, the Glossy Ibis with the dark eye.
