European hornet

Female European hornet found dying/dead on the pavement near my building. She was lying on her back and twitching when I first saw her, then stopped moving. Cause of death was not obvious, but there was some damage to her abdomen, and her stinger was everted, suggesting that she may have stung someone (or possibly someone's dog).
