African pygmy kingfisher
Ispidina picta
-3.89577, 35.8448
Field Notes
Description:
One of africa's smallest kingfishers and the most brightly colored, although superficially like the malachite kindfisher. Usually found near water in woodlands. I think he was snapping up the wasps that were visiting the waterholes
Habitat:
Lake burunge camp
Notes:
My favorite spotting of this location - such a tiny jewel bird - and a kingfisher, which is one of my favorites to get a good shot of. I actually took a couple photos(last picture in series) without knowing what I'd captured. It wasn't until my husband pointed him out, barely visible in the branches over the waterholes that I knew what he was.
