Field Notes

Description:

Somewhat similar to the House sparrow (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/330806005) but the male has a russet head. The females can be seen in the second photo...they have much duller plumage. Thick, short seed-eating beaks.

Habitat:

Village Kolakham. Very close to the Neora Valley Jungle Camp.About 3 hours drive from the coordinates shown. Remote hilly forested area. Himalayan foothills. It had rained heavily earlier and tiny rivulets were flowing down the road. The birds bathed with abandon. It was a joy to watch and a nightmare to shoot because they moved so much.

Notes:

Also called the cinnamon or cinnamon tree sparrow. Called Laal Guria in Hindi which means Red Doll!
