Description:
This is the larva of a firefly (pyrocoelia analis). There are two bluish luminous spots near the tail (the tail is on the right). I was told that female larvae only have one luminous spot. Their eggs are also luminous so keep an eye out for them when searching for larvae. Their light are quite dim so it's a good idea to dim any torchlight you bring so that your eyes adapt to the darkness.
Habitat:
This larva is found in Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve in Hong Kong. Their eggs need moist to survive and their larvae cannot fly. So, they are often found near drains or waterfalls with heavy plantations. The adults flies everywhere.
Notes:
Pyrocoelia analis is carnivorous!
