Field Notes

Description:

This is a common sparrow-sized finch, observed few times during our stay in mountains of Caucasus. First three pics is male, with its rusty-red chest and belly and blue-grey cape; and in the fourth one, a more down-to-earth coloured and more discreet female.

Habitat:

All pics were taken in mountains, on about 2000 m of altitude, on edges of coniferous forest and around mountain habitations and gardens in Caucasus.

Notes:

Males were seen as a part of Serin's flocks (Red-fronted Serin and European serin); while the female was seen on its own.
