Description:
The term "white" is believed to come from the Dutch and Afrikaans words for "wide" (referring to the mouth). This incorrect translation led to the name white rhino. White rino is actually darker than black rino.
The white rhino has a downward-pointing, longer head. It also has a wide lip for grazing. The second horn is generally shorter than that of the black rhino, while the base of the first horn is very thick. It has a large hump on its neck.
Habitat:
White rhinos live in savannahs with water holes, mud wallows and shade trees. I meet this couple at afternon nap.
Notes:
Is a ongoing ant-poaching war in South Africa .An unprecedented 668 rhinos were slaughtered last year for their horns. The rapid decline in numbers of both African rhino species is a result of extensive poaching for their horns. The horns are sold on the black market, most go to Yemen and Asia.
