Description:
This walking-stick was approximately 4 inches long including the antennae. It was light tan in color. It looked much like the dead grass that was clinging to door frame.
Habitat:
Habitat: chaparral and grasslands
Range: "California and Oregon in the west, east through Arizona, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico to Texas"
Diet: scrub and grassland plants
Notes:
This guy was hanging out on the exterior brick wall of our school. It has been been there for the past week and has moved very little. The students really enjoyed seeing it. I would really appreciate any help with an exact identification.
Fun Facts: 1. Walkingsticks can regenerate limbs. If injured they have the ability to break the leg off at a weak joint and then molt to regenerate the lost limb. 2. Nymphs eat their molted skin. 3. The Chan's Megastick is the longest walkingstick on record with a body length of 14 inches. It measures 22 inches when its' legs are extended.
