Field Notes

Description:

Day-flying moth of the family Arctiidae. The adult wingspan is 52–65 millimetres (2.0–2.6 in), and they fly from July to September, depending on the location. Black and white upper wings, with tiger-like stripes, bright red-orange lower wings with black dots. Body cream-colored with tiny black dots and underwings orange.

Habitat:

On the side of a road through a deciduous forest, on Eupatorium cannabinum and other plants. Near mountainous area.

Notes:

I saw at least 4 or 5 individuals nearby, feeding on nectar.
