Field Notes

Description:

A golden spiny forest ant dead with a fungus sporangium sprouting out from behind its head. Ophiocordyceps sp. Ants parasitized by this kind of fungus will climb to the edge of a leaf before dying, this is so that the fungi spores can spread out further by the winds.

Habitat:

Found on a tip of a leaf in Tawau Hills Park, Tawau, Sabah, Malaysia.
