Field Notes

Description:

This edible mushroom is white to cream in color with a distinctly scaly cap. It's normal size is 5-15 cm. It has a ring on the stem and the stem is longer than the cap diameter. It has a white spore print.

Habitat:

It grows on the grown in woods. This one was growing at the edge of a deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.

Notes:

Disclaimer: If you are not a fungi expert, it is best to buy your 'shrooms at the grocer. Many that are poisonous (and potentially fatal) closely resemble the edible species.
