Description:

The wingspan of the moth is 83-101 millimeters. [2] The basic color is black to blackish brown. On the forewings are several large, yellow-green to malachite short transverse bands and spots. Because of the similarity of color to the mineral malachite received the kind of their German name. For longer flown moths or collection specimens faded green color and then assumes yellowish tints. Also on the hind wings there is a large patch of green that fills the entire root area. In addition, a chain of green spots, which run on the outer edge along. In the vicinity of the Tornus a short black tail can be seen. The wing undersides show a similar green spot pattern as the tops, but the color is more orange or brownish in color.

Habitat:

The distribution area of Malachitfalters includes the south of Texas and Florida, Central America and large parts of northern and central South America. The species prefers living in subtropical forests.
