Field Notes

Description:

This is an armored catfish that is gray with black interlocking lines over the entire body.

Habitat:

This fish was seen along the edge of the channeled river that runs through Bray's Bayou in Houston, TX (30 masl).

Notes:

The invasive snowy pleco are descendants of those originally sold for aquariums. Many quickly outgrow their tanks, or people decide to get rid of the aquarium, and the fish are released in Bray's Bayou. They are very destructive to the channel because they dig holes in the banks, furthering erosion.
