Field Notes

Description:

Deciduous tree with alternate leaves that are broad, simple, broadly cordate, with a shallow notch at their bases. Shape from leaf to leaf varies. Long clustered berries (similar to blackberries) that later ripened to a dark red and then to deep purple/black.

Habitat:

Soggy soil. In a moist mixed hardwood forested area in a flood zone.
